My car just confused the hell out of me.

Over the past couple days my car has been "acting up." I'll be driving with my seat belt on but then it starts to tell me that it's not on and will blink the seatbelt light AND the airbag light sparatically.

I called my VW dealer and they said to just bring it by and they would run a diagnosis on it for free since I am still under new car warranty.

As I started to make my way to the dealership, I got a text, reached over into my passenger seat and picked up my phone (I'm breaking the law I know) and answered the text but then I noticed the lights had gone off...... then I got to thinking..... I put my phone back in the seat and the lights came back on..... took it off and they went off. My car thinks the phone is a person or its somehow messing with the sensor. When the phone is in the seat the car doesn't activate the passeger airbag (airbag light does not change from "passenger off to passenger on." I still think the car believes someone is there but does not weigh enough to need the airbag, still doesnt explain the airbag light and the sparatic chimes.

I called VW back and explained the situation but they still want to look at it to be sure.

Hmm... seems like your scale needs to be fixed.. I think the weight is supposed to be 65 pounds; because my bulldog, who is 60 lbs now; was right on the border.

I think it's something to do with the phone. I can put my lunch box on the seat that weighs more and it wont chime or anything.

I've seen this on forums for other cars, too. No idea why, but it seems like a radio field issue of some type. Just don't put your phone there.

I don't anymore, just my car is so small that I always drop the damn thing under the seat trying to put in a cup holder or in the dash.

I have a Thule roof rack with the windguard and the phone its self has a rubber case, it managed to wedge its self between the fairing and the car. FYI I drive at speeds nearing 90 on the expressway to work.

THAT IS SO SEXY... OMG I LOVE THEM. My neighbor had an MK2 quad light in montana green with factory BBS rims and dealer installed exhaust. He had it since new. It's beautiful, sits just right and sounds like heaven.

The new-new Beetles are pretty damn sweet looking. How's it drive?

I'd LOVE to get a set of the factory BBS wheels for my car. They're as expensive as my Enkeis though, and nearly twice as heavy. I couldn't justify it for autocross, lol.
